Why am I not concerned with the Bush wire-taps? Because the federal government's primary responsibility is to defend the country from threats. What threats? HOW ABOUT PEOPLE WITHIN OUR COUNTRY, INCLUDING CERTAIN CITIZENS, WHO ARE OUT TO KILL OR ASSIST IN THE KILLING OF AMERICANS IN OUR STREETS TO ACHIEVE POLITICAL ENDS. In other words terrorists commiting terrorism, a word the leftists have pushed very hard to redefine as politically incorrect because the truth is that many of them have taken to, or supported those who carried out such methods themselves 30-40 years ago. We empower the government to do what it has to do in order to serve this function, at times, extreme times civil rights have been suspended (martial law) to rectify extreme situations. It has happened. I can't think of anything more extreme than Sept 11th 2001, neither has anyone else. Again, why am I not concerned about being wisked away in the dark of the night to Egypt to have a bucket of water poured on my head? Because I am not a terrorist plotting violence against the US, nor am I a former leftist radical who publicly advocated the overthrow of the government during the 1970's NOR am I associated with any of them. If "normal" americans are afraid of what amounts to martial-law-wiretapping, maybe it is because they espouse and embrace these anti-american sentiments.Some of the current presidents pals who "have it out for Americans" fall into this category BTW, they said so publicly If I were the president and his pals I'd be worried about errantly getting picked up on the wiretap radar too. Again so why are you so worried about the government doing what it is empowered to do when it doesnt target or affect you (except keep the next Mohammed Atta out of your life) or anyone you know, yet you arent kicking and screaming when the government is doing what it was never empowered to do and affect you and everyone you know here at a minimum??? A side that promotes the further expansion of an institution to a size unimaginable that has never shown itself to be able to resolve any problems, that has historically created more problems far worse than it ever solved, a side that is filled to the brim with hypocrisy and fascist undertones, a side that seeks to enforce policies on the populace that it will exempt its policymakers from, a side that zero issues with raising taxes under the guise of "everyone making sacrifices" and then proceeds to promote tax dodgers to the highest government positions....this post could just keep going and going and going. But it wont matter to people like you Kris. The difference between people on my side and people on your side is that you guys are "for your side", while the other side is "for us". These lessons have all been learned before, the arguements have all been made more than once already. We already know where this goes, there are examples of it throughout the world today as we speak. I used to think just like you, then I grew up and realized the harsh realities of the world. If the world is being ruined ecologically, it will be ruined ecologically, it will either be thru "climate change", or we'll simply breed to a point where there phyisically isnt enough room for us. However it happens, there will come a tipping point where violence will determine who survives and who doesnt. I'd prefer that until that day comes, we Americans live in freedom and we keep our military strong so there is no way we ever get the short end of an inevitable survival stick. You took an oath. I recommend you look into what you swore to uphold.
